BIM-EDIT/XP uses special work areas known as clipboards. A clipboard can be used as a temporary holding place for text lines. A clipboard is typically used in copy, cut, and paste type operations that move text from one location to another.
The following commands make use of a clipboard:
A clipboard may be either a system clipboard or an application clipboard. Exactly one system clipboard always exists. The system clipboard is managed by the operating system and shared by all applications. One or more application clipboards may exist. Application clipboards are managed by BIM-EDIT/XP and unknown to other applications. The ClipRotate command is used to select the clipboard which is to be used for subsequent clipboard operations.
The system clipboard is the required work area for inter-program transfers, i.e., transfers between BIM-EDIT/XP and other programs. For intra-program transfers, i.e., transfers within BIM-EDIT/XP, an application clipboard is the recommended work area. BIM-EDIT/XP clipboards offer advantages over the system clipboard, one of which is the restoring of contents upon system restart.
