A Job is both a set of instructions passed to the host operating system spooler and the resulting printed or punched output from the processing of the instructions.

If the host operating system is VSE, the spooler is POWER, and the jobs are POWER jobs.

If the host operating system is MVS, the spooler is JES, and the jobs are JES jobs.  A specific dataset within a JES job is referred to as a JES job data set. A group of JES job data sets is referred to as a JES data set group.

When a command creates, alters, or accesses a job it generally sets the last referenced job (and data sets).
