BIM-EDIT allows you to specify the operation performed by the 24 PF keys, the three PA keys, the CLEAR key, and the ENTER key. BIM-EDIT/XP is far more flexible in this area. Approximately 480 different key combinations may have command strings assigned to them. In addition, BIM-EDIT/XP recognizes four separate "environments" where you may want a key combination to operate uniquely:
C Active cursor in command line with command line not empty.
N Active cursor in command line with command line empty.
S Active cursor in session body.
E 3270 emulator entry.
(The 'X' environment is defined as the 'C', 'N', and 'S' environments collectively.)
BIM-EDIT/XP allows you to assign to a particular key combination a unique command string for each of the four environments.
Assignments may be temporary, i.e., they will revert to their original values when BIM-EDIT/XP is restarted, or they may be permanent. Temporary assignments are made with the KeySet command or by updating and saving a KeyLibrary session. Permanent assignments are made by creating and/or updating control files (see Key Assignment Table).
The current key assignments can be displayed at any time by invoking the KeyLibrary command as follows:
