Use FileSync to ensure that a Host file and its associated workstation file are in sync.
FileSync may also be entered as FileSy[nc] or Syn[c].
Required Operands
FILE is the Host file for which synchronization is to be ensured.
Optional Operands
OPT Option. If specified as "F[orce]", the Host file will be copied to the workstation file regardless of whether the two files are already in sync. This option is seldom, if ever, used. If used, it is probably at the direction of support staff.
FileSync will determine by comparing update date and time values whether the Host file and the workstation file are in sync, i.e., whether they are identical. If FileSync determines that the files are not in sync, the Host file will be copied to the workstation file.
FileSync uses the File Synchronization Table to determine the location of the associated workstation file. See File Synchronization Facility for more information.
FileSync is an explicit way of causing the Host file and the workstation file to be synchronized. There are a number of ways in which the synchronization process takes place automatically. Again, see File Synchronization Facility for more information.
FileSync sets the last referenced file.
When Valid
The user must have LIST access level for the FILE directory.
Return Codes
OK Successful.
NF File not found.
SC Inadequate access level.
Procedure Notes
FileSync sets the TXM variables to the attributes of FILE.
Examples
Synchronize BIM file ESGL030 with its associated workstation file:
=> sync esgl030
