When an Edit or List session of a Host file is ended, BIM-EDIT/XP can, in addition to the normal host processing, optionally store the session contents as an workstation file. When the next Edit or List session of the Host file is created, if the workstation file contents still represent the contents of the Host file (determined by matching update date/time values), BIM-EDIT/XP will load the contents of the workstation file into the session. This saves the overhead of re-transferring text lines from the host to the workstation. This process is known as Hot Restart.
Note that at the time the session is ended, all of the session lines have not necessarily been transferred from the host to the workstation since BIM-EDIT/XP normally downloads text only as needed. In this case, only the session lines that exist at the workstation are written to the workstation file.
Hot Restart is actually part of the File Synchronization Facility.
