Use SessionFile to cause the updates to the session to become permanent.  In effect, the underlying object, usually a file, is updated.  SessionFile also terminates the session.

SessionFile may also be entered as SessFile, FileSess[ion], or File.

(SessionSave  can be used to update the file without terminating the session.)

SessionFile may also be invoked by pressing F6.

SessionFile has no operands.

After the transaction the screen will display the session that precedes it in the session chain.  The SessionClose command can be used to end a FileEdit session without saving any changes to the text.

If the underlying object is a workstation file, its associated file attributes will be updated as well.

When a FileEdit or FileList session is filed, the last referenced file is set to the file for the session filed. On DOS/VSE, when a JobList session is filed, the last referenced POWER job entry is set to the POWER job entry for the session filed.  On MVS, when a JobList session is filed, last referenced JES job or data sets is set to the JES data sets for the session filed.  This is useful because there will often be further commands desired (such as FileProcess or JobDelete). But it can be confusing because last referenced does not correspond to what is showing on the screen after a File.

Return Codes

OK Successful.

Procedure Notes

When a FileEdit or FileList session is filed, the TXM variables are set to the attributes of the file for the session filed.  On DOS/VSE, when a JobList session is filed, the PWR variables are set to the attributes of the POWER job entry for the session filed.  On MVS, when a JobList session is filed, the JQE, JCT, and PDB variables are set to the attributes of the JES data sets for the session filed.
